Family has raised 200K from a website taking donations for the man's defense costs. Judge says he wants to reconsider the bond amount.

I think this is wrong. The man can't go to work for his own safety reasons. He can't bring in any income. He still has bills and obligations. He is limited on where he can go.

So put the money into an account to take care of his living needs and defense costs, set a person to oversee it.

This sorta feels like a back handed persecution of the man. Is it the intent to impoverish the accused? Sorta feels like it!

I don't understand how they set bond.  I always thought it was according to the severity of the offense and the likelihood of the defendant of skipping town.  Now it is according to the ability to pay?

Of course that is the intent.

Making him pay, even though he is in the right is all they want.

It would be both.  A 25,000 bond to a multi millionaire is nothing...to someone with no money it is everything.

From my understanding family worth / access to funds is taken into consideration.  When Zimmerman's group put forth their "equity" statement they neglected to include the $200K in a bank account.

That said, if the money is in a "trust" for lawyer fees than they don't really have access to it and should not be included.

If he has the ability to withdraw at his own leisure than ya it should be included in the decision process...if not than no.  This is what happens to everyone.

Good. I'd be surprised if they hadn't put those funds into a designated trust for his family's support and his defense costs. By the time this is done with I'm sure the attorney bill will be a lot more than that 200K.

His jury trial is already tainted. The publicity uproar leads me to believe there is no way he can get an impartial trial. Added to that the pressure to convict to avoid full blown riots.

It's a mess either way. Media won't admit they sensationalized things. Neither are they trumpeting the info now coming out that Zimmerman very well could be telling the complete truth. Media reports those items, but not with the mind blowing fanfare used when it looked like he was guilty.

Is he guilty? I don't know. Wish he could get a fair trial. That I have doubt of.

Zimmerman is already a political prisoner.

Why would they want to raise his bond? He hasnt done anything to show that he is a flight risk. More harassment thats all.

The poor man lost his only fair chance when he was wrongfully arrested.  How is he going to get a fair trial when the president wants him jailed for political reasons, and is putting pressure on everyone involved to see to it he is imprissoned.  If the local government didn't get him, the feds were, and may still get involved further.
Obama and his imaginary son that looks like Trayvon should be persecuted for violating Zimmerman's civil rights.

This case has been nothing but wrongs from the very beginning starting with an arrest that was clearly the result of pressure from activists and politicians.

You could just donate to his website/paypal account and add to the $200+K.

they already had $5k and a property bond (somebody loses a house if he skips) which is sufficient to insure he appears.  BUT if it was only cash,, helluva lot easier to skip if it's donation money only that would be lost.  Also having $200K on tap is pretty tempting (Uruguay by freighter, new cards, security job, etc) would run through his mind....
