I have a 1990 750 Intruder, and would like to know any good or bad about it. I have only had it for a week. Was a good deal that I could not pass up. So Let me hear it from you techies.
Also I am in the thinking stages of "blacking out" my bike. Any pointers to help me keep the cost down and do it right would be helpful.
thanks,
Mike, (bridgeman70)
ok here are a couple of pics.

Nice looking bike man, I like the the blacked out look too. I think it would look better without the sissy bar. I can't stand those things aesthetically. Maybe take the suzuki stickers off? add Fork boots? black handle bar and hardware? paint your rims? paint your fork lowers?

Funny you should say that about the sissy bar. Taking it off asap. Where could I find fork boots?
I am thinking of doing the painting myself. To include all the chrome. Maybe black chrome?

Try a search to find the thread about them. I can't recall the site. I guess any 39mm fork boot would work, but I'm not sure.

Nice
Welcome
I would show your new bike some love and check all the standard maintenance stuff to make sure it has not been neglected or molested.
Stuff like battery connections, fluids, air cleaners, brake pads/shoes, tire pressure, put in some NGK Iridium plugs, etc.
The 1st thing I always do is by a manual and read it.
and then ride it like you stole it .

Yep you're right you need 39mm boot (had some on my 750) and Ebay is a nice place to get some.

looks like you have two bike ideas going on. I say loose the passenger seat and sissy bar and shorten or replace the signals.

This was how I bought the bike. Signals are on the way, much shorter and alot brighter. Sissy bar gone now. As soon as I get the cash, the seat will be re-done. I am think about keeping the back seat. But still undecided. only because I will have to do some work to the rear fender if I take the seat off.

I can tell you that painting the speedometer housing semi-gloss black and leaving the "trim ring" chrome looks really nice. My housing was broken clean off, and the guy that welded it basically ruined any hope of polishing it out. So lots of sanding, some glaze and spot putty and rattle-can paint and it has a nice satin look that the ring really sets off. I polished the indicator light housing and altogether turned out nice. Leaving a little chrome to accent a blacked-out bike seems to make it more drastic and noticeable.
I'll try to post a pic of the speedo.

Also, if you can find a stainless steel bolt kit for the engine, that looks great with a blacked-out engine. There are people selling kits on Ebay that's a ton cheaper than buying them individually yourself, and sometimes if they don't list a kit for your bike, they can put one together. Most of the bolts from the kit I bought for a Suzuki GS750E fit my old Shadow 500, and looked great.
