Will they interchange onto a 2000 VS-800? I'm considering buying this bike & I have a complete 1986 VS-700 with them on it.

Has anyone ever seen a set of snowflake rims chromed? I've got a set on my '93 800, and I polished them the best I could, but I keep thinking they'd look great chromed. Or black powder coated leaving the outer rim silver.
Just for an odd comparison, the '88 VT800 Shadow rims are some of the most desirable, because they're the only wire rims that will fit the '83-87 VT700-750 that came with 10-spoke or 5-spoke mag rims. Edited by txironhead on Apr 14, 2012 at 10:29 AM

I did not like the snowflakes because they looked so, blah.....
With the paint and polish you did, they look very good (Not as good a well maintained chrome spokes, but I sure as hell wouldn't be ashamed to have that wheel on my bike!)
That is a mighty long time to own a motorcycle, Cuban!!

There was a snowflake rim on E-Bay a while back that nobody wanted as it had a "hop" Well a buddy in Minnesota snagged it for me and it's currently at a local shop getting straightened. Then it's getting powdercoated silver with a clear on top. I'll post pics when it's on the bike. Now I need a rear wheel

I guess I should Have been a bit more clear on this - Other than knowing I have to change direction of the front tire on the rim cause it will be reversed otherwise left side front brake rotor '86, right side front rotor, 2000, do I need to use any parts different off eachbike - spacers, rear brake plate, axles speedo drive ? as I said I have two 100% complete bikes & was thinking of switching the wheels/tires from bike to bike - thanks !

That's something I was wondering about recently. I never checked to see the rotation of the drives, just cleaned, greased and installed the speedo drive that came with the snowflake rims. But it does make sense that the one that was original to the bike would be the correct one to use. Physically, they appear identical, but I definitely don't want to damage the speedo.

Ok guys...when you install the snowflake wheel on a newer model you would:
1. Reverse the tire rotation
2. Retain the original spacer, axle, and speedo drive from your bike.
The same is true if you would like the newer spoked wheel on your '86/'87 model.
You replace only the wheel and rotor.
You replace the rotor because the 5 bolt snowflake and the 6 bolt spoked model will not interchange.
Edited to say that is for the front wheel.
The rear wheel is a direct swap.....any brake drum will work. Edited by navigator on Apr 28, 2012 at 06:21 PM

Didn't realize the spacer and axle were different. Luckily I have the originals.

Hey Cuban, did you paint then polish or polish then paint? did you clear coat? I replaced my rear brakes the other night and got out my paint stripper, polishing wheels and made the rear wheel and brake cover look like chrome but after seeing Cuban's I'm considering paint.

I bought that wheel from eBay for something like $85.00 plus $75.00 shipping. It was painted totally black, looked rough, but was straight. The day it arrived, I didn't even bring it home. I stopped off at a local polishing shop, and had them do the stripping, powdercoat and polish, for another $250.00. No clear coat. Saved me spending my own time, and doing a worse job of it.
I rattle-canned the brake backing plate, pumpkin and shock springs to complete the blackness. I still wanna remove and paint the engine...
