My Other Ride Is Your Leg

Luckily I'm not like most folks and while I have the cash to spend, I do have to spread it out so the "normal" bills get paid.
I paid $6500 for my 06 Intruder and yes I know it's cheaper in the US, but in Canada our bikes are priced higher. So far I have right around 3,00.00 in bolt ons and am far from finished. Still plan on 6 degree trees, longer forks, an exhaust system, rejetting, rear wheel (most likely from Europe) my 7 Gallon MCD tank needs paint (everybody wanted me to give it away, I'll use it instead). I have in my hands not 1, but 2 Snowflake rims. Have to take them to a local wheel shop on my next days off and when that is done the rims will be sandblasted and powdercoated & I'll consider selling one, but I won't be giving it away (I'll melt it down for scrap before that happens) Have a friend in Europe who will start looking for a rear rim when I give him the word. I hope to tear into the motor and perform the Designer Gear mod and might even get that 1620cc kit out of Germany. Chrome air filter covers, Driveshaft cover, rider & passenger pegs, mirrors, stainless bolt kit, Designer springs, Leatherlyke luggage, backrest extension, K&N drop in filters (already have & will install when I rejett) chrome brake & clutch reservoir covers, custom paint could also be in the mix
So far I have fender tips, Suzuki "S" gas cap, engine guards, Kuryakyn highway pegs & grips, Dyna 300 Ignition, OEM rear rack, Corbin Gunfighter which will be sold as soon as the Corbin Dual Tour arrives (ordered the wrong one & it's non returnable) L.E.D. conspicuity lighting (to be installed) signal & headlight visors, rear OEM rack, oil cooler grill and stainless plates to replace the reflectors on the cooler, Intruder badges to replace the Boulevard emblems. L.E.D rear taillight, Progressive 412 hd shocks,
Hell I'm away from home & can't remember if I have anything else coming. I'll spend the cash but as I have it Edited by Night_Wolf on Apr 9, 2012 at 10:10 PM

This is a mod that I'd like to do to help make my bike as cool as others.
GRAYWOLF was running a Del 'Orto Carb on a Tambourini Manifold on his '87 Motor before he blew it up at 7,700 RPM racing a Yamaha. Mine is a somewhat different approach:
He subsequently made his own Intake Manifold (using the same carb) on a replacement motor.
Curiously, exactly what happens when you "blow up" a bike when it's spinning at 7700RPM while racing a Yamaha? That's a LOT of RPM, and seems like something will end up flying outta somewhere.

Very cool Night Wolf. When you are ready let me know and I'll put you in touch with the guy that built these things. I felt he was fair with me, and more importantly he got stuff done the same week he got them. I've left stuff and picked it up 3-6 months later untouched and pissed off.
And I understand the budget thing...If I didn't have one my punch list would be listed as mods already completed.

Why are you rejetting with K&N drop-ins? Totally unnecessary.

The bottom end kinda took a turn for the worst (pun intended) and exited the crankcase. From what we gathered either he threw a Rod or broke his Crankshaft,.....both were badly damaged.

Can a contender for coolest bike not be one of our own, and not even an Intruder? Earlier I cited Exile Cycles as an inspiration, but my first inspiration was John Buttera and his limited run of Speedster bikes. Oddly enough I can hardly find any pics of them anymore, so many of you may not know of them. (He's the guy who built the first billet wheels in 1979 using Cragar's facility and is regarded as the father of billet.) Have a look at how he integrates parts...the rear brake into the swingarm, the forward controls into the engine covers, etc. Super clean work to inspire your next mods from...

The bike is already lean and I live at an altitude of 3400+ ft above sea level. Roads I regularly ride are at even higher elevations

Someone said my bike is not cool because I didn't have any pics of her posted.
Ok, I pulled 'er out of winter storage yesterday. The weather was fantastic so it was a no-brainier.
I spent a good while cleaning her and making her presentable again and took a few pics of her.
Now I know this bike is really mostly stock and all, but not quite. Anyway, some pics and explanations follow......
Sorry I don't have any "before" pics. Also, these pics were taken in subdued lighting and don't show the full color of the bike as if it were in direct sunlight.
I kind of don't really like the tank bib so much, but I do find it useful. I put my stogies and glasses in there. Sometimes my watch or thumb drive. It IS handy but does somehow clutter up the bike.
The faring is nice but it has some issues too.
It seems there is a coating of some sort that has
worn off in places. I am as yet undecided as to
whether or not I'm going to replace it with
something different or just remove it altogether.
The saddle bags kinda piss me off also.
They are just large enough to use, but not really.
I plan to replace them with "hard" bags or maybe not at all.
Again as with the bib, they do come in useful at times.
The luggage rack has got to go. It is rusted and unsalvageable.
I find it handy, but again clutters, the look of the bike.
Anyway, there she is.

I guess since we're on the subject, Here's mine... I did the paint job last summer and all the other parts were added one at a time over the last 5 years or so... All House of Kolor paints, Apple red kandy over Orion Silver base and all the artwork is done in black, then 3 coats of clear. The bike is fully un corked and rock solid dependable. Whether it's cool or not... you decide, but I like it...
And this is what it looked like about a week before I painted it...

I don't expect my bike to be as perfect as some others may like to see of their own, but I did do some minor upgrades to her in the last couple days.
After changing out the stock plugs for iridium after markets......
Of course there were two of them.....
And after swapping out the clutch lever.....
And the front break lever......
I achieved the forgoing results.....
Now I realize that some of these parts may be slightly blemished, but believe me, they are top quality regardless. With a tiny bit of touch up and paint these parts can shine with immaculate perfection. Something I know first hand.
I think my bike is getting a bit more cool, but I'll keep working on it!

$1600 not bad eh? new tires and a bunch of chrome, runs good might need carbs cleaned and re-jetted this winter. just changed the oil with suzuki oil from the dealer for 7 dollars and some change a quart (doesnt even say synthetic) and a K&N chrome oil filter, clutch still slips when i "wack" full throttle in 4th, if i roll it it is fine, guess clutch springs are first from what i've read here!!

Get rid of the dumbo ear signals and that flimsy rear rack. And after swapping out the clutch lever.....

Ok, I know you're teasing and stuff but I have to agree with you. About 3 weeks ago I was at a local watering hole that is a watering stop that a lot of biker club guys frequent. Anyway I'm there and some kid prolly in his mid 20's or so, rides up on this Harley that's got SO much added chrome plastered all over it that it was nothing less to say than a gaudy spectacle to see. I swear it must have had 800lbs of chrome $hit mounted on it everywhere you looked. He had these ape hangers on it that he could barely reach and pulled up like he thought he knew something.
In hindsight, I wish I had taken some pics of it, but at the time I figure no one here would appreciate the ugliness of this guys bike, so I refrained from it. The 2 up passenger he had with him was MUCH more soothing to the eye, but I had to wonder what the young lass was thinking in hanging out with this guy.
I thought it especially exciting when he went to leave, as they didn't stay long at all (prolly was a little scared when they found out the typical patronage) and when he rolled out the driveway and tried to goose it, the bike fluttered, popped and nearly died out on him completely! He twisted the throttle a couple times and kept it running enough to get it going again but the result was like, Damn dude you shoulda spent that money on a tune up instead!
